I like that it was available through amazon prime, and I like that it came with its own box. It could not be giftwrapped, unfortunately. It does not come with the red ribbon, as shown — I had to add a ribbon to hang it up. Also, the packaging is chintzy — a sturdy red cardboard box, with promotional marketing printed on the bottom of it, comes inside a sleeve with promotional marketing printed on it. Within the box is a layer of “velvet board” glued into place — this is not well-aligned or well-adhered inside the one I received. The bell comes wrapped in 2-ply tissue and sealed in a standard sandwich-size plastic bag. I’m pleased with the bell but disappointed with the packaging. I took a chance and ordered this as gifts for many people; I wish I had waited until I received one of my own before I decided to order multiples. I will upload some photos into “Customer Images” to show what I am talking about. There is a removable tray with small divided sections. Below you can store larger items. The ballerina is quite pretty as I was worried she could be tacky. As soon as I lifted the chest open, my daughter crawled over to see where the music was coming from with a big smile on her face. A great buy for any little girl. You won’t be disappointed. These dishes were joined a few years ago by my husband’s black stoneware dishes, and I quickly realized that food looked a LOT better on his dishes. Since that time, the menfolk (husband & 14 y/o stepson) have chipped, cracked or otherwise broken several pieces of my dinnerware set. Thus upon a recent significant birthday, I decided I was going to buy myself a new set of dinnerware as a present. I loved the way food looked on the black plates, and wanted dishes colorful enough to stand up to my deep red dining room. The dishes had to be tough enough to stand up to the menfolk, be dishwasher friendly and microwave safe. I soon settled on Fiestaware. I loved the assortment of colors and serving pieces and the possibility of mixing and matching colors and pieces. A big plus was the variety of places to order them online, allowing me to avoid the dreaded mall. I did make one trip to a local kitchen store to look over the colors in person, as I know the accuracy of color representation online is iffy. I ordered 4-piece place settings from Amazon in plum, persimmon, turquoise, sunflower and cinnabar (I’m still waiting on the sunflower). I added a matching boullion cups, the pedestal bowl in plum, serving pieces from the Betty Crocker catalog in juniper, and dinner plates in chartreuse from Ebay. The colors are absolutely scrumptious, and with all those colors I can mix and match to suit my mood, my outfit, the dish I am serving, the weather or any combination of the above. The dishes are attractively designed, and fit well in the dishwasher. The mugs are amazingly comfortable to hold (I wasn’t sure they would be), and the cereal bowls are generous in size. There are numerous shapes and kinds of serving dishes to accompany the dinnerware, which will make it hard to stop adding to the collection. And did I mention I love the colors? Most of the place settings arrived very quickly, with the longest wait for the sunflower. Amazon shipped for free, and the boxes arrived in excellent condition with no breakage, just lots of cardboard to recycle, so no complaints on that. I’ve been using most of the dishes now for about a month. Now for the downside, and I’m sorry to say there is one. Apparently Fiestaware has a long history of production flaws. Several of my dishes arrived with glazing flaws such as debris in the glaze, glaze pops and skips. Amazon exchanged quickly and easily, no complaints there, but one of the replacements, the persimmon boullion cup, arrived with an even worse flaw. It looks like Homer Laughlin China needs to do some significant work on their quality control. Others have mentioned that the dark colors show some scratches from use, and unfortunately I have to agree. To date, however, the scratches are not significant enough that I’m overly concerned, after all these dishes get used daily and tossed in the dishwasher. On the whole, I love these dishes, and am happy with purchase. They were reasonably priced and will offer years of service. If the thought of a few scratches on the plates, or a few pieces with production flaws, concerns you, though, I suggest you consider different dinnerware. I’d give Fiestaware 5 stars if they could clean-up their production act; until then 3 will suffice. When I got married my husband was unwilling to part with his old chipped dishes. Over years of looking at different dishes, he found a reason for rejecting them all–wrong color, wrong shape, wrong material, etc. Finally I presented him with this (in Cobalt) and we found something we could agree on! No question that this was worth waiting for. It is very durable, with no chipping problems. It’s heavyweight and beautiful, so even without formal china (and who really uses that anymore?) we can still set a lovely table… Plus it shares one big advantage with formal china–a huge array of matching completer pieces. Even better, you can find it in department stores everywhere. Open stock is readily available, so even if I did manage to break one I could easily replace it. I also find it fun to constantly see the same dinnerware I use at home on the table in restaurants and in TV shows/commercials. I bought a special exclusive five piece setting, which is the same as this but with the addition of the fruit bowl. I thought I’d never use it, but that fruit bowl is probably the most used piece! Perfect for a single serving of ice cream (the regular bowls are huge), a boiled egg, snack nuts, etc. There are lots of special pieces like this. I was concerned that the cereal bowl wouldn’t stack and would be a problem to store, but it nests just enough to easily fit a stack of eight in my little cabinets. Do note: if you want to keep buying matching pieces or think you might need replacements later on, be sure to buy one of the standard colors, not a special limited edition color. Also, at least on my screen, what shows as cobalt here looks NOTHING like the real color. It is actually a very deep, glossy dark blue, which in certain light also has suggestions of purple or even black. This new line of Fiesta Ware – manufactured by HLC – is primarily produced with the original molds used to produce the product for over the past 60 years or so. New Fiesta Ware is made of a vitrifed china which requires a higher firing temperature than the oringal line which was made of semi-vitrified china. Vitrified china appeals to the restaurant industry, a large part of HLC’s customer base. (Next time you are in a restaurant, peek under the plate to see the name of the manufacturer – it will probably be HLC!) However, to accomodate shrinkages caused by the higher temperature, mold changes had to be done to the lids and 10.5" plates. Restaurants use Fiesta Ware and other HLC china because of its durability. I have been using the new Fiesta Ware for every meal, every day for the past 13 years and have only broken a few things. (Thankfully, they usually survive the drop into my cast-iron/enamal sink without a scratch.) As far as manufacturing flaws are concerned, you will find them. They may included variations in the depth of color or a glazed-over "bump" in the china. (Anyone that has collected older Fiesta Ware will tell you that these same flaws exist in the older pieces as well.) If you are particular, check your product! If you don’t like it exchange it. However, I have found flaws to be more uncommon than common, and those that I find are fairly minor and not bothersome. HLC has added new items to the line, again, mostly for the restaurant trade; however, they are welcome additions to any kitchen. My personal favorite is the 12" rimmed bowl which is great for a big serving of pasta! Bottom line: In my opinion, this is a wonderfully durable, colorful and fun line of china – enjoy it for a long time! The most popular dinnerware is plates. There are actually many kinds of plates and some we are not encountering much in our home tables. The Dinner Plate is the most common of these plates. The 10-inch dinner plate is usually used for main dishes and entrée in formal dinner set up. The Luncheon Plate, however, is the common plate we use daily at home which is usually 9-inch in size.

The wide 12-inch Place Plate, however, is not used for food but rather as an under lining in dinners. It is mainly functions as a guide for silverwares and other apparatus used in table setting. It is also used as a service plate when the food is served.
There are other smaller plates that are significant in use in tables especially in formal or normal occasions. The Bread-and-Butter Plate or sometimes called as Butter Plate only measures 6-inches n diameter and is used not just to serve bread and butter but also for cereals, desserts, and salads.

Salad Plates are plates that are, of course, used for salads and even desserts. Salad plates are sometimes used as an under liner for stemwares such as goblets, wine glass and others.
Saucers are small shallow dish that have an inner groove to hold cups. Another kind of saucer is the Demitasse Saucer. This is usually smaller than the usual saucer and this is used to hold demitasse cups.

Bowls are essential in tables since it usually serve soups but there are types of bowls also same as of plates. The Cereal Bowl or more commonly called as Soup Bowl which is primarily used for serving soups that can hold up to 16 or 24 ounce of liquid. It can or can’t have a rim. The smaller version of this is called a Dessert Bowl that can hold 10 to 16 ounce of fluid.

The Pasta Bowl is a large shallow bowl that, of course, serves different kinds of pastas. It may or may have not a rim. The Pasta Bowl is also perfect for serving salads.
Most homes like to display fruits in tables either for consumption or just simply for decorations. But its purpose is usually for both reasons. Fruit Bowls are used for this purpose creating a replica of a cornucopia.

For mixing and serving salads, Salad Bowls are ideal. It is deeper that made it perfect for mixing sumptuous salads which is capable of holding up to three quarts and more salad goodness.

The Casserole is best for serving almost anything. The edge of this casserole is that it is oven safe; therefore, baking food with it is no problem.

The Cream-soup Bowl is chiefly for those creamy soups. It looks like a wide shallow teacup with two handles in each side. It is usually matched with a saucer to hold the spoon when it is not in use. The smaller version is called the Bouillon-soup Bowl which also goes with a partner saucer that prevents spills.

The Finger Bowl is not a common bowl but it is still a dinnerware. It usually holds water with lemon or flower petals to wash one’s finger in the middle of courses in some multiple course meal. Commonly, it is served on a table napkin on top of the dessert plate before the dessert course.

Cups or drinkwares are used for the consumption of beverages. The commonly used cup is the Coffee Cup. This is usually ceramic and is used mainly for drinking your favorite hot aromatic coffee. Coffee cups are usually smaller than teacups and partners with a saucer.
Teacups are usually bigger than coffee cups and also have a saucer. Like the coffee cup, the teacup is usually ceramic. This kind of cup chiefly serves teas and is typically shorter and wider than a coffee cup.

Demitasse is French term that means ‘half cup’. This is a kind of a small cup that has a liquid capacity of about 120ml which is half the capacity of a coffee cup. Whether coffee or tea, demitasse cup is good for both.

The teacup will have no meaning if a Teapot is not around. This dinnerware is commonly ceramic, same as the teacup, which is used for steeping tea leaves or a tea bag. The teapot has an opening lid that lets you add water or tea into it. Some teapots have strainers in the inner edge of its spout to strain the leaves of the tea.

Some dinnerwares are used for decorative purposes like the Chargers. These are plates measuring 13-inch or 17-inch in diameter. They hold bowls and plates from all courses except for the dessert. Since no food is on contact with chargers, they can be made of any material that dinnerware are usually made such as wood, metal, glass, and others.

These are just some of the common dinnerware and still there are more in the list. Whether the event is formal or just the normal days, dinnerwares are important in terms of serving us our delectable and favorite dishes. When I was looking into tableware for my toddlers, I wanted something durable, practical, and fun. Grandma bought my daughter a beautiful porcelain set with bears that included a plate, soup bowl, cup and silver cutlery. Small toddlers love to fling things on the floor, and I am sure that the set would have broken if we had allowed her to use in independently. Look for plates and bowls that won’t break. Depending on whether you are an active participant in feeding your toddler or your child is into self-feeding, you will need a soup bowl, small plate, and a deep plate as well as cutlery and a mug or glass. Some parents prefer to pass on the flat plate altogether, because they encourage messes. Deep plates help the food stay on the plate until your child eats it.

Plastic items do not have to look cheap and tacky, and can be extremely pretty. They’ll also cope well with their fair share of being thrown around. Wood is another option, as is metal. There is always time for pretty porcelain sets when your children have discovered things will easily break, and can look after them responsibly – in my experience, at around age four.

It is important for the crockery set to be visually attractive to your child. Some children love plates with their favorite cartoon characters for instance, while others prefer bold colors. Choosing perfect tableware together with your child is a great option. You can buy online from stores like Amazon, or look for a local store that sells crockery. Cartoon tableware is more likely to be found at a store like Babies R Us than at a high-end porcelain store. Prices for a complete set that includes several plates and a mug range from under $10 to $80 and upwards.

Cutlery can be made out of any material, but should not have sharp edges. For most families, a spoon and fork will be all that is needed – knives can be introduced at a later stage. Many toddler cutlery sets are designed for little hands that are still learning to grip properly. Look out for these.

Whether your toddler is sitting in a highchair with her own “table” or has their food placed on the dinner table, a good table cloth that is easily wiped down or washed is another huge help. Messes will be made, and you will be grateful if they are relatively easy to clean up!
